Helping girls make positive choices

Cool Girls provides an opportunity for girls from low-income communities to learn about themselves and others in a positive manner while instilling leadership, confidence and respect. It shows them, through after school educational programs, mentoring and field trips, that they can achieve anything they pursue by setting goals, working diligently and making good choices.

Volunteers play a crucial role in helping us change the outcomes for these girls.

Cool Girls Volunteer Opportunities:

Cool Girls Club is a weekly after-school club focused on life skills development, academic support, physical fitness and nutrition, and technology. Through the collaborative efforts of volunteers, staff and school personnel, participants are educated on topics that impact girls. Weekly lessons include puberty, self-esteem, conflict resolution, cultural awareness and exposure to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math).

Cool Sisters is a one-to-one mentoring program. Volunteers are matched with Cool Girls participants to act as role models and provide friendship and personal support. Cool Sisters volunteers develop meaningful relationships with girls which allow them to encourage academic achievement and personal development. Our mentoring component reinforces concepts taught throughout our programs.

Cool Futures is a life-skills and leadership development program for girls in 8th – 12th grade. The purpose of Cool Futures is to inspire girls to be successful leaders in their schools and communities. Workshops include college preparation, community service, and financial literacy.

Cool Connections activities are designed to enrich the Cool Girls experience. These activities include: A Beautiful Me, an annual pregnancy prevention workshop; field trips, off-site outings which expose participants to cultural, educational and social experiences; and Shopping Days, incentive-based activities for girls to “shop” for back-to-school items and holiday gifts.
